Fall is in the Air!

Saturday started out with a soccer game. Megan scored another goal (she is tied for the highest scorer on her team) and they won 2-1. Her team is in first place.

After dinner on Saturday, we took Uncle Bob to Yates Cider Mill to go for a walk and have some cider and fresh doughnuts. It was a beautiful night.

Megan bought a fish on Friday night. She named it Lauren, not sure why. Mike and I call it Charlie (for “Good Luck Charlie” – hope it lives for more than a week).

A New Year, New Season

Well, the new school year is off to a start.  This time of year always seems like the beginning of a new year more than January 1st.  I am back to work so it has been busy.  Luckily, my mom and dad came down to help out.  I just found out on Saturday night that I would be going back to work on Tuesday…the shocker is that I am teaching art.  (It may even be more shocking to Annette than myself).  The good think was that I didn’t have kids on Tuesday so I had a little more time to acclimate myself and I didn’t have to set up a whole classroom.  Megan has been enjoying second grade.  She really seems to like her teacher, Mrs. Miller.  The twins are also enjoying preschool.  I think the first day was a little long for them but they were even set to go on Saturday morning.  It seems like they have been keeping to themselves somewhat and haven’t made many new friends.  The first day of school, in fact, the whole first week was very rainy.  Non-stop rain all day long!

Megan also had her first two soccer games of the season.  They lost on Friday night but won on Saturday.  She played really good in all of her positions.

Canada – Part 4

After the winery, we stopped for dinner at a “Swiss Chalet.”  We saw them all over Canada – that and Tim Hortons, and figured we should try it.  We walked in and expected a fast food type but it was a sit down place with mainly chicken items.  Everyone enjoyed what they ordered and the girls ate great.

After dinner, we headed to the horse races at the casino.  We won on the first race but lost on the next two.  The 2nd race a horse named Meredith Macquire won, guess we should have bet on her but we didn’t have the book with the names or odds, Mike just picked horse #6 each time.  Canada 9.3.11 183  Canada 9.3.11 187 Canada 9.3.11 190 Canada 9.3.11 194 Canada 9.3.11 195 Canada 9.3.11 196

On the final day, we swam in Lake Erie.  I have to say that it was the dirtiest of the five Great Lakes (at least where we swam).  There were lots of weeds all over the edge of the beach.  The water was warm, however, and the beach was crowded.

Canada – Part 3

When we arrived at the Falls, we took a ride on the “Maid of the Mist.”  It was quite and sticky day so the rain ponchos stuck to your skin.  The the spray from the falls began to get heavy, I asked the girls if they were having fun.  Meredith and Megan loved it but Annalyse said “I don’t think this is a very fun ride.”  I think she liked the ride though.

On the way back to our hotel from the Falls, we stopped at Wayne Gretzky’s winery.  They said that Gretzky hardly ever goes to this location though because it is too small.  It was amazing all of the wineries that we went by.
