Canada – Part 4

After the winery, we stopped for dinner at a “Swiss Chalet.”  We saw them all over Canada – that and Tim Hortons, and figured we should try it.  We walked in and expected a fast food type but it was a sit down place with mainly chicken items.  Everyone enjoyed what they ordered and the girls ate great.

After dinner, we headed to the horse races at the casino.  We won on the first race but lost on the next two.  The 2nd race a horse named Meredith Macquire won, guess we should have bet on her but we didn’t have the book with the names or odds, Mike just picked horse #6 each time.  Canada 9.3.11 183  Canada 9.3.11 187 Canada 9.3.11 190 Canada 9.3.11 194 Canada 9.3.11 195 Canada 9.3.11 196

On the final day, we swam in Lake Erie.  I have to say that it was the dirtiest of the five Great Lakes (at least where we swam).  There were lots of weeds all over the edge of the beach.  The water was warm, however, and the beach was crowded.

Canada – Part 3

When we arrived at the Falls, we took a ride on the “Maid of the Mist.”  It was quite and sticky day so the rain ponchos stuck to your skin.  The the spray from the falls began to get heavy, I asked the girls if they were having fun.  Meredith and Megan loved it but Annalyse said “I don’t think this is a very fun ride.”  I think she liked the ride though.

On the way back to our hotel from the Falls, we stopped at Wayne Gretzky’s winery.  They said that Gretzky hardly ever goes to this location though because it is too small.  It was amazing all of the wineries that we went by.

The next day, we headed to the beach to swim in Lake Ontario.  Unfortunately, most of the beaches were closed due to the water conditions.  Even though we weren’t supposed to swim, we went into the water up to our knees (we had to go in the water).  The girls enjoyed playing on the beach for a while.  There was also a carousel at the beach (one of the oldest ones in Canada).  The best part was the rides were only 5 cents each so we took a couple rides.  After the beach, we headed back to Niagara Falls.Canada 9.3.11 100Canada 9.3.11 124  Canada 9.3.11 104 Canada 9.3.11 107Canada 9.3.11 101 Canada 9.3.11 108 Canada 9.3.11 112 Canada 9.3.11 115 Canada 9.3.11 117  Canada 9.3.11 125 Canada 9.3.11 119 Canada 9.3.11 139   Canada 9.3.11 148 Canada 9.3.11 149 Canada 9.3.11 150

Dundurn Castle…

The castle was built in the 1830’s after the war of 1812.  Before going in the castle, Annalyse asked me confused “We’re wearing this clothes?”  I think she thought we were going to Barbie’s Diamond Castle or Cinderella’s castle and we should be putting pretty ball gowns on.  The had a good time looking at what life was like back then.

Niagara Falls at night…

After the castle, we headed to Niagara Falls to look at the falls lit up at night.  We went shopping a little first before it got dark.  The first stop…the Hershey Store.  After shopping a little, we headed to the Skylon Tower to take a ride up 52 floors.  I think that was Megan’s favorite part of the trip.
