Music and Sickness

Megan had her music concert on Tuesday.  They did a good job!  The kids were all very excited to be on the risers, Megan was very proud of her accomplishment…she was not on the floor, she actually got to be on the risers.  She said, “I was rooting for that!”  I told her good job (Mike thought I was making fun of her, I told him it was a BIG accomplishment when your short like me.)

The twins have been sick for about a week now, starting with a runny nose and now a nasty nasty cough.  A cough so bad that they both have thrown up a few times due to coughing so hard…Annaylse accomplished it in Kohls on Friday night (thankfully no one was around us).  Mike is now also sick with a awful cold.  I have a little runny/stuffy nose; its not too bad at the present time.  Megan has been healthy so far so hopefully she stays that way.

The girls and myself are heading Up North on Thursday, looks like the roads should be bare of snow…the temps look pretty warm.

Here are some pictures from Megan’s concert.

We LOVE Snow Days!

We enjoyed our snow day lounging around.  School was cancelled at about 9:40 last night, unfortunately the twins didn’t realize it was a snow day and didn’t sleep in.

Most of Detroit seemed to be shut down, they even closed doctor offices on Monday already, but it really didn’t need to be shut down.  We sure didn’t get the amount of snow that was forecasted, we got about 5 or so inches.  There are parts of our yard that the snow is about up to the twins waist and other parts that there is no snow and you can see the grass, we have quite the drifts after all of the wind the last few days.

On Sunday, we went to the Polar Bear Plunge down on our lakefront.  The kids made the newspaper, not sure if it is the front page or not because we didn’t get the mail today (so much for “rain or shine, the mail must go through.”)

Hopefully there will be a Packer post on Saturday or Sunday morning!  GO PACK GO! – gotta beat those Stealer fans that we are related to!  :)

Snowy Fun

Not too much going on in the Voakes house lately.  We have been having some relaxing weekend around here.  The snow has been pretty steady this winter, no major snow falls (although it sounds possible Tues/Wed) but we have been getting a couple of inches every few days.  Mike took the girls out Saturday morning while I went to get an oil change in the van.  Looks like they had a lot of fun – there was about 4 inches of light fluffy snow.

They also did some finger painting while I was grocery shopping on Sunday.

Just a couple of funnies -

I was using rubber bands for decks of cards for school this week and Annalyse said, “Mom, do you want me to put this silly band over there.”…guess they are growing up  in the 2000’s.

We went to dinner at the Olive Garden on Saturday.  Of course on the way there Meredith gave her famous line - “This takes forever.”  I told her we were almost there and she said “where, I don’t see any flowers.

Have a great week – crossing fingers for a snow day on Wednesday!

What We've Been Up To…

We had a pretty relaxing 3-day weekend.  On Friday night, Megan had a sleepover – they went to bed great but unfortunately were awake at 6:30 am on Saturday morning.  We ran some errands in the morning and then cam home and everyone took naps (all 5 of us).  We were planning on going sledding but just decided to relax around the house.  We did some sledding on Sunday morning we went sledding.  The hill was pretty quiet when we got there but kept getting busier and busier.  We had movie night on Sunday night and the girls slept in the living room.  Monday morning we went to IHOP for breakfast, WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!  The wait was a half hour, which was not too bad although we were not planning on a wait.  While we were waiting I heard a waitress tell a table they were out of hashbrowns, WHAT???  When we sat down, the waitress said they were out of hashbrowns, stuffed french toasts, eggs,  creamer for coffee (although they had milk), and she would have to check to make sure they had pancakes.  Are you kidding me?  Well, they did have pancakes, although I am not sure if they were IHOP batter or Meijer batter.  After IHOP, we went to Chuck E Cheese to play some games and then came home and relaxed some more.

My job is going okay.  Each day gets a little better, I sure do miss my old class though.  A few of the kids are turning their behavior around, I have been making LOTS of phone calls home, more than I ever have made in my whole career.  Hopefully, in another week or two it will be back to a regular classroom.
