It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas…

We began to get our house ready for the Christmas holiday this weekend.  Actually, we have for a few weeks now.  Friday night, we decorated our Christmas tree (we have had it up for about 2 weeks now).  The girls did a great job although Mike and I “re-decorated” the tree when they were done.  They still insisted on putting all of the ornaments in one spot.  We managed to decorate the who tree this year without Meredith breaking an ornament BUT she didn’t go all year without breaking one – she brought an ornament into the kitchen this evening to tell me she had lost “the hooker" and dropped the ornament and it shattered all over the floor.  I must say she is three for three.

Meredith was also very disappointed on Saturday morning.  As soon as she woke up, she went potty and went down to look at the tree and then came back upstairs to tell Mike and me that there were no presents.  Poor girl, she must have thought Santa Claus was coming that night.

We have our tree decorated in the girls’ favorite colors this year – not really on purpose but it worked out great (pink, blue, and green).

On Saturday, Mike decorated the outside of the house.  He bought new LED lights this year in white, red, and green, so we had to run some errands on Saturday night to hunt up some more lights.

Sunday, Mike and the girls made Chex Party mix for the Voakes family Thanksgiving Get-Together (this year at Saundra and Vince’s in WARM North Carolina).

Mike also set up his winter village on Sunday.  I don’t have pictures because he finished after I had already finished down-loading the pictures off of the camera, will have to be a post another day.Christmas Tree '10 110 Christmas Tree '10 114 Christmas Tree '10 115 Christmas Tree '10 117 Christmas Tree '10 120Christmas Tree '10 118

Here are some of the girls holiday pictures, we had their pictures two weeks ago in order to beat the holiday rush.

This is Annalyse’s smile when we tell her to open her eyes more and not squint.  Mike says it is her botox look.

Have a great Thanksgiving.  We are off to warm North Carolina, should be about 70 degrees when we get there on Wednesday, and then cooling a little.  We should miss the snow that is supposed to arrive in Metro-Detroit on Wednesday.  Don’t eat too much and enjoy shopping on Black Friday – I hope Saundra is up for it this year!

Glistening and Shiny

The twins had there first visit to the dentist today.  I wasn’t sure if they were going to have a full dental exam today or just “go for a ride” on the chair.  Megan and I went first.  (Mike met us there also).  The twins were in the room with Megan while she got her teeth cleaned, the hygienist Heather said they were very interested and excited to have their teeth done.  It just so happened that my hygienist Rosie and Megan’s hygienist Heather both has cancellations after us so the twins had a full exam – no exams or fluoride, just an exam and polish.  They did FANSTANIC!  I wasn’t really concerned of them crying, I was most concerned with them not liking the flavors of the polish and such.  They were in luck – Annalyse had root beer (the only flavor of suckers she likes) and Meredith had chocolate mint (one of her favorite candies).  We held off on the fluoride because it was already 20 minutes after 6 and they wouldn’t be able to eat for a half hour and we hadn’t eaten dinner.  Dr. Carlin said everything looks great and no one has to go back for 6 months.  Heather was impressed with the eagerness of the girls in the chairs, she said every family usually has at least one crier!

Saturday morning we woke up to our first snow!  There wasn’t much and it melted within an hour or two of waking up, but it was definitely our first snow.

And………………………….

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Voakes house.  We have our Christmas tree up!  We were coming home on Sunday from getting the girls Christmas pictures done (I know we are early, but hey, it wasn’t very busy!) and we saw a house in our subdivision with garland along their railing inside.  Mike said we should put our tree up, I told him that I wouldn’t discourage him from doing it – so during the Packer game last night, he put our tree up!

Have a good week!  We managed to get two hours extra of sleep because of the time change.  One on Sunday (well, not really) and one on Monday.  Sunday night I remembered to change the time on my alarm clock but evidently I forgot to set my alarm.  All of a sudden at 6:45 am this morning, I heard the twins getting up.  I had to first think what day of the week it was and then I had to think what time I usually wake up at.  Well, I usually get up at 5:30 and leave by 6:50, needless to say it was a rush and good thing Mike was working close to home today.
